Winter's Brew! It's the liquid embodiment of winter, the emotional catalyst that sends me mentally into a serene winter landscape, the sun glittering off the snow at dusk near a secluded alpine cabin. Winters brew is a ginger and cinnamon beverage that I discovered last winter, fell in love with, and instituted as a winter ritual, the most serene of seasons. Winter's Brew IS the solitude, peace and mystery of winter.

It's also New Year's at La Casita, passing around the bottle as we made toasts and resolutions to bury the skeletons and plant new seeds. It's ritual.

It almost didn't surprise me when a fresh, homemade brew showed up in a large wooden bowl at our favorite restaurant, the Green World, to be included in my Korean experience as a ritual. This brew isn't bought from the shelf--processed and bottled at a warehouse. No, this brew is created with love and care by Moon Kyong and So Ney, the Tita De La Garza's of the Green World.

So I sip it slowly and watch the snow fall past the second story window of the Green World and think not of alpine cabins, but of foxes in the snow on moon hill.
